The Governing Body

Mrs Joanna Glew

Foundation Governor

My husband and I have called Bolney home for over 20 years and I have been involved with Bolney school as a parent, staff member and Governor at various times through those years.
My three children all attended Bolney and have many happy memories and friendships that have stood the test of time.

I have loved this opportunity to be a part of all aspects of school life , particularly the Gardening Club and over the last 10 years running a prayer club, Hotline to Heaven.
Hotline aims to provide time and space for children or staff to come and explore the concept of prayer in a fun and creative way.

One of the main reasons that I chose to send my children to Bolney was the fact that it was a church school . As a Christian I found the core values at the heart of the school fitted with how I understood the teachings of Christ .

As a Foundation Governor , I hope to try and assist our school in ensuring that, the strong emphasis on Christian values continues , and our link with our church St Mary Magdalene church flourishes as we seek to engage with all in our community.

Term of office 12.1.21 - 11.1.25

Mrs Emma Jones

LA (Vice-Chair)

My name is Emma Jones.I have two children at Bolney.

I have been a qualified teacher since 2003 and have worked at different secondary settings within Sussex during this time.

Working at one of the local secondary schools allows me to be in a unique position in supporting our students from Bolney in their transition to secondary education.

I enjoy working with young people and have a genuine desire to see them achieve their best during their time at school. As a governor I want to work with the school to ensure that all children at Bolney have a positive experience and are equipped in the best possible way when they finish year 6.

Term of office - 4.12.20 - 14.5.28

Mrs Tracey Cooke

My husband and I moved to Bolney two years ago. I decided to become a Governor to learn more about the wonderful village community we have joined.

I have a legal and scientific background and currently work for a large multi-national in London. I have a long –standing interest in education having spent many years teaching and training people in the legal profession.

As a Governor I hope to use my experience of risk management, leading a diverse and inclusive team and managing a budget to support the Headteacher, staff and everyone at Bolney Primary.

Term of office - 28.11.23 - 27.11.27

Mr Neil Murphy

Co-opted

While relatively new to Bolney I have lived in Sussex for 15+ years and have previously lived & worked in London and the United States. Bolney is such a welcoming and active village where the school is very much part of the community.

Being a Governor allows me to see firsthand the wonderful functioning of Bolney Primary. With very fond memories of my own primary education, I hope that today's pupils (and their parents) will cherish their time at the school and go on to form their own lasting memories & friendships.

With a background in banking & financial technology, my day job provides an opportunity to help clients solve problems and manage their risks. As a Governor I hope to provide support to the Headteacher to enable the school to manage similar objectives and perform to the highest level.

VACANCY - FOUNDATION

Mrs Clem Sutters

Co-opted / Chair

I have lived in Bolney for ten years, and have had two children at the school. I'm pleased to be joining our team of Governors.

Before moving here, I lived in London and worked in the financial services sector in the City for ten years. I am a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales. I helped out with the Friends of Bolney School as Treasurer for six years, so I have knowledge of how the school is funded and the importance of the support we give as a community.

I've helped out regularly in school since my daughter started. I'm always impressed by the happy, productive and nurturing atmosphere that the children and staff have created. I love the fact that all of the children know each other's names, it's a really special feature of our small school. We're very lucky to have a fantastic team of staff here, and I'd like to do everything I can to support them.

Term of Office 17.3.22 - 16.3.26

Mrs Gemma Spencer

Co-opted

I live in Bolney with my husband and our young son Charlie. I have always been a Sussex girl having lived in Haywards Heath for most of my life but made the move to Bolney in 2017 and it was definitely the right choice for us. We love the community spirit here in Bolney and although Charlie isn't old enough to attend Bolney school just yet I hope that one day he will!

I am a Solicitor in Horsham specialising in Wills, Probate and Trusts. My job is very important to me as I really get to know my clients and their families and help them through, what can be, a very challenging time in their lives.

I am delighted to join the Governors of Bolney school and I am keen to support the teachers and pupils in any way that I can.

I decided to become a Governor to utilise my experience of strategic design within business to benefit the school, whilst giving me greater exposure to the running of the school, which will be a significant part of my families life for the next 10 years.’

Bio:
My wife and I have lived in Bolney for 8 years and have two children - Eliza who attends Bolney and Ebonie who is currently at pre-school.

I work for the insurer RSA and work on setting the strategic direction of our commercial insurance distribution within the UK, as well as working on our M&A activity.
