Attendance

The staff and governors of Bolney CE Primary School believe that regular attendance and punctuality are essential for success at school and later in life.

Encouraging this reflects the school’s concern for the welfare of pupils and is considered to be the responsibility of parents/carers, pupils, the school staff, governors and the Local Education Authority.

Good attendance has a big impact on pupil progress and attainment.

We strive to achieve an attendance rate of 96% or more for every child and will make parents aware if it falls below this level. Whilst we do not wish pupils to come into school when ill, we do expect pupils to attend when their illness is minor.

We urge you to think very carefully before taking a child out of school during term time.

Absence

If your child is ill, you should phone the school office and speak to a member of staff or leave a message.

If your child is ill at school we will contact you to let you know.

Should your child need to be absent for any reason apart from illness we ask that you fill in a ‘Request for Withdrawal from Learning’ form stating the dates and reasons. The school completes their part of the form and returns it to you, informing you whether the request has been authorised or not.

For short medical appointments of less than half a day please notify the school in person or in writing. For medical appointments for half a day or more a ‘Request for Withdrawal from Learning’ needs to be completed unless a different arrangement has been agreed with Ms Lofthouse.

Please note that we are unable to authorise term time holidays - this is a nationwide ruling.

Pupils missing more than 10 sessions (5 days) from school within a 10-week period could be subject to a Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN) issued by West Sussex Local Authority.

Please see our Attendance Policy for more detailed information.

Lateness

Being late for school is a stressful start to the school day. It can disrupt the learning for the child who is late as well as for others. We encourage parents to ensure their child is at school on time. The classrooms are open from 8.45 for a 9.00 start.
If being late is likely please let the office know. If there is an ongoing difficulty in getting a child to school in time please discuss this with Ms Lofthouse as we may be able to help.

Withdrawal from PE

Should your child need to be excused from PE lessons for any reason this should be detailed in a note or email sent to the school office.

Children who are not able to take part in PE lessons are still involved in the lesson through evaluating the skills of the class, under the direction of the teacher. If your child is not well enough to go outside to do this it must mentioned in the note or email.
