At Bolney Primary School our Vision and values underpin everything we do. We are determined to nurture the whole child and help our children become healthy, independent and responsible members of society. Our Relationship and Health Education is offered within a broader PSHE curriculum with other opportunities to be involved, such as School Council, Eco-Council and positions of responsibility to encourage children to be involved in school life. Our positive ethos, culture and Christian values allows everyone to feel that they belong and helps to make us a mentally healthy school. We aim to ensure that the whole school community is welcoming, inclusive and respectful.
We are determined to deliver a broad and balanced PSHCE curriculum which is accessible to all and that will enable all children to flourish. Our curriculum aims to prepare children for the opportunities and responsibilities and experiences for later life as well as manage the complexities of growing up.
We help our children understand how they are developing personally and socially, and tackle many of the moral, social and cultural issues that they will encounter growing up. We provide our children with opportunities for them to learn about rights and responsibilities and appreciate what it means to be a member of a diverse society. We encourage our children to develop their sense of self-worth by playing a positive role in contributing to school life and the wider community.
We follow a structured approach to ensure the curriculum areas are covered at the age appropriate level using the Jigsaw program. We provide bespoke lessons to address any current issues that the class or children need when necessary. We are also following the Zones of Regulation curriculum, designed to help individuals to develop skills to self regulate.
Through our Zones of Regulation and JIGSAW lessons we enhance pupil’s knowledge about how to maintain good mental health and wellbeing and encourage our whole school community to be open in talking about mental health. We look to maximise children’s learning through promoting good mental health and wellbeing throughout the school. We know from experience that happy children are healthier, learn better, display more emotional literacy and are better behaved.
Our staff team are committed to helping all children develop the essential social and emotional skills they need to cope effectively with setbacks and remain mentally and physically healthy. Staff look to support children and their families by playing a key part in identifying emerging mental health needs by recognising signs and symptoms and sharing these concerns. Where we feel that a child requires further support from an appropriate specialist we can refer to health professionals.
